The art of Directing can often be mysterious and lonely, as many directors learn their craft in other disciplines – such as acting, writing and cinematography – and pick up helpful but often unfocused tips and tools along the way. It can be a solitary and confusing position to hold in rehearsals and on set without specific knowledge and mentorship.

As an experienced and educated professional in the discipline of Directing for both theatre and film, Peter can lend his expertise to other directors at any stage in their career in each of the following areas:

Mentorship, advice and understanding how to navigate preparation, rehearsals and specific problems on stage or sets

Detailed script analysis and how to make theme, subtext and symbolism work without being far too obvious (risking cliché) or too subtle (risking invisibility)

Collaborating with actors and getting the best performances without knowing the details of every (or any) acting technique

Working with other collaborators effectively, from writers to designers, technicians to producers

During my 30 plus years of experience in the Australian film and TV industry, I have nurtured, supported and developed creatives who have gone on to have successful careers both here and abroad, and those who show immense potential to be industry leaders. I believe Peter Blackburn to be such a director.

Over the years, I have seen Peter direct at least five plays and have been impressed by his work ethic and dedication to the craft. He is a talented young Australian theatre artist and a vastly experienced stage director who has worked across many diverse and engaging works.
