Workshop 1: Building Character (The Physical Actor)
An active workshop designed to deepen your understanding of physicality in performance. Through the exploration of Laban efforts, you'll learn how to express emotion and intention through movement. We'll delve into somatic work to connect mind and body, enhancing your awareness and responsiveness in the room. Inspired by Yat Malgrem's innovative techniques, you’ll engage in exercises that unlock your creative potential and embody various physical archetypes.
Workshop 2: Working Character (Dynamic Rehearsals)
A dynamic workshop where actors will begin with personalized scene allocation from director Peter Blackburn, allowing each actor to explore roles that resonate with their unique strengths and challenges. We'll then dive into techniques for bringing the physical body into the rehearsal space, emphasizing movement, body awareness, and the embodiment of character. Finally, we'll cultivate effective rehearsal practices that promote collaboration, creativity, and growth among actors.
Workshop 3: Becoming Character (Truth and Intention)
A transformative workshop designed to unlock your emotional range and enhance your performance. We’ll start by exploring personality-based archetypes, helping you identify and embody the characters that resonate with your true self. Through targeted exercises aimed at releasing stuck emotion, you’ll learn techniques to connect with and express your feelings authentically. Finally, we’ll adopt a pragmatic approach to identifying your objectives, ensuring you have clear goals that drive your performance.
Workshops can be taken separately or together as a mini course in a systematic approach to creating character.

Peter Blackburn is a force of creativity like you have never experienced. It's hard to describe the profound impact of his training and directing methods, and I will give it a go, however the foremost advice I would give any actor is; if you can work with him, work with him. Peter has such great respect for actors' autonomy and with one word will lead you to make incredible, brave and sometimes confronting choices that fuel a deep understanding of your character, your text and yourself.
